Wuxin Tunneling: Focusing on "invisible champions" in niche fields

Ying Jinshan Tunnel is surrounded by large differences in terrain height, steep topography, long tunnel, deep, extremely poor traffic conditions, is the highest altitude, the most complex terrain and geological and climatic conditions, the construction of the most difficult section of the line. 1 tunnel length of about 18,120m, the total length of the second tunnel 12,939m, IV, V class peripheral rock accounted for as high as 93.8 per cent. The two tunnels have a long construction period, complex geology, faults, water and mud surges, harmful gases, large deformation and other adverse geological concentrations, and are all Class I high-risk tunnels.

In the face of long construction period, poor stability of surrounding rock, high risk and other problems, five new tunnel intelligent equipment has become a bright red on the plateau again.

Focus on segmentation, wet spraying machine to develop the tunnel market

In 2010, Wuxin Tunneling was established in Changsha Jingkai District. Although the construction machinery industry was in an upward cycle at that time, the start of Wuxin Tunneling was still difficult.

Wuxin Tunneling's main product was lining trolleys. In order to open up the situation, Wuxin Tunneling firstly chose to follow up the water conservancy and hydropower projects on site, so as to obtain a slight breakthrough in the product market.

In the meantime, with the advent of the era of mechanisation of tunnel construction, Wuxin Tunneling found that the tunnel construction basically adopted manual dry spraying method, which was dusty, seriously affecting the health of the operators, and there is a greater danger, and the wet spraying process of the robot is a blank market in China.

Wuxin Tunneling Chairman Yang Zhenshi said: "the trough period, the enterprise on the one hand to develop the market, on the other hand is to focus on research and development. In fact, there are similar products abroad, but the import of a wet spraying machine domestic price of more than 400 million yuan, the price is expensive, not to mention the shortage of operators, after-sales service to keep up with the maintenance of spare parts is not complete, all the problems lead to wet spraying process in the country for a long time not to be promoted."

In 2011, Wuxin Tunneling independently set up a team, began a research and development road from scratch, and determined to promote the wet spraying process to various tunnel sites across the country.

In 2012, Wuxin Tunneling independently developed China's first tunnel concrete wet spraying machine CHP30C.

"At the beginning, customers had questioned and rejected us, and the company also encountered many difficulties. However, through our technological innovation, service model innovation, the company's products have gradually gained market recognition, but also gradually replaced the original traditional manual small machine construction." Yangzhen persimmon told reporters.

In 2014, five new tunnelling wet spraying machine is gradually accepted by the market, simple and easy to use, the price is less than half of foreign products. At the same time, the company also established a set of perfect service system, has a professional service team, the establishment of more than 50 domestic and foreign after-sales service points.

The excellent product features and considerate after-sales service have won Wuxin Tunneling double recognition from the industry and customers.

Yang said: "Now I can proudly say that more than 95% of the concrete wet spraying machines used in China are domestic brands, and more than 90% of the tunnels use wet spraying robots, no longer manual equipment construction, which is a welcome achievement for the whole industry."

Nowadays, Wuxin Tunneling has sold more than 2,000 wet spraying robots, serving more than 3,000 tunnel construction sites across the country and overseas, giving a perfect answer to the market.

Scientific research first, to create a national speciality and new "small giant".

The success of the wet spraying machine has inspired Wuxin Tunneling to continuously research and develop new products to enrich the product system and enhance market competitiveness.

"The company's revenue scale is only 100 million to 200 million yuan, our R & D staff of more than 20. Last year, our revenue is less than 700 million yuan, R & D staff has been more than 80, which is relatively rare in our size of the company." Yang Zhenshi said.

The company's financial data show that from 2018 to 2021 and the first three quarters of 2022, the company's research and development expenses were 11,946,800 yuan, 15,722,300 yuan, 18,372,200 yuan, 28,478,800 yuan, and 32,667,900 yuan, respectively, and the R&D investment has increased year by year.

"For enterprises, R&D investment is necessary if they want to continue to develop healthily and achieve a certain position in the industry. We have always been against low price competition and vicious competition, which will jeopardise the development of the industry. We always insist that innovation drives the common development of enterprises and the industry." Yang Zhenshi said.

The R&D investment has also brought fruitful research results for Wuxin Tunneling. As of 30 June 2022, Wuxin Tunneling has 331 patents, including 65 invention patents, 4 patents won the China Patent Award of Excellence, and is also a national speciality, speciality and new "small giant" enterprise.

Looking back on the 12 years of development in Changsha Economic and Technological Development Zone, Yang Zhenjiao quite emotional: since its inception, five new tunnelling in a certain stage of the pace is not very fast, but compared to those in the peak of the massive expansion, and finally survived only a few years of enterprises, five new tunnelling is not slow. The core of this "relativity" lies in focusing on the main business steadily and steadily, dedicated to research and development without venturing into the future, which is also the trick that Wuxin Tunneling is able to open up a new situation in the midst of the crisis.

Now, in addition to the main tunnel construction equipment, Wuxin Tunneling has more plans for the future.
